This past July, our OLG youth were part of the 2200 youth gathered in Rochester for Steubenville, an awesome three-day spiritual experience.
“I thirst” was the theme for the conferences this year. In this sense, the youth could experience God’s infinite love for them and how much he longs for theirs. The bible quote that enlightened the three-day conference was: “But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). From this quote on, we reflected on God’s merciful love, in the sense that our Lord loves us unconditionally: always, despite our mistakes and infinitely, because he doesn’t look appearances but the heart. The clue given to us to experience this great love was to pray every day in order to be aware of God’s presence in our daily lives.
Over the weekend we attended workshops and reflected on the different topics covered by the speakers, such as purity of spirit, loving one’s neighbor and how to live our faith today. Our youth also had time to exchange ideas in small group discussions, attended daily Mass and receive the sacrament of confession. We also spent a lot of time in praise & worship and adoration. For the youth those were the most important moments, because it allowed them to have an encounter with the Lord, to pour out their hearts, and receive God’s grace to grow in their faith. This experience has been made a deep impact on our youth and encouraged them to be proud of their faith and continue seeking God in their daily lives.
The youth kept their minds and hearts open and let God’s love fill their souls. They really connected with Jesus and felt supported by him to courageously live their faith. Taking home with them some resolutions that might help them in their spiritual life from now on, such as daily prayer, joining a small group and attending Mass every Sunday. Let’s keep our youth in our prayers!
