Director of Faith Formation
It is 8:45 on a Monday morning in the heart of the summer. On this particular Monday morning Our Lady of Grace campus has been transformed into the “Maker Fun Factory” by a team of youth and adult disciples. You hear squeals and peals of laughter, see 180 children, over 25 teen leaders, and over 20 adult leaders engaged in learning about God’s great love for us.
Perhaps not what you would ordinarily expect to see on a summer Monday morning, but July 24., 2017 was no ordinary day. It was the beginning of our parish’s week-long journey, deep into a world where kids would have several hands-on opportunities to discover that God made them - and for a purpose!
Each day started with a rousing celebration where we sang catchy songs, learned a key Bible verse, and met our zany friend, Ivana, who helped us demonstrate the Bible point for each day. After our opening we went to small-group learning centers where we: became actors in the daily Bible skit, played teamwork-building games, devoured yummy treats, tested fun gizmos, learned about the saints (our Catholic heroes), saw videos about kids living as disciples of Jesus, and met Bible Memory Buddies. We even had special visitors throughout the week, as Fr. Kevin, Fr. Neil and Fr. Nick joined the fun! At our daily Fun-Shop Finale, we were sent out with the mission to look for evidence of God all around us and report back the next day during God Sightings, which helped us to build the habit of gratitude. There were many highpoints during the week, but the highest was when we celebrated Mass together on Friday, giving thanks for the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist!
At Our Lady of Grace we were blessed to have a great team of leaders who answered their baptismal call and brought these activities to life for our preschool through 8th grade learners! We had moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, siblings, youth leaders and clergy all working together to bring the “Maker Fun Factory” to life! This was a beautiful example ofministry that demonstrated a true collaboration of many in our parish, both through the prayers you offered and through the many acts of the self-giving love of our leaders.
It was truly a grace-filled experience to see people of all ages interacting in ways that brought our faith alive. We cannot wait for next year! Be sure to join us for “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus”. Watch for information in March 2018!
