Roy, Curtis Lloyd age 93, of Edina and Bloomington, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018. Curt joins Joanie, his beloved wife of 66 years, in heaven. He is survived by his four children, Cathy Thatcher (Steve), Steve Roy (Susan), Mary Fisher (Jim), and Barb Hatch (Tom); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Curt will be greatly missed by his family, who were his primary focus, and the source of love and joy in his life. Born in 1924, Curt grew up in Duluth and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Curt graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1950 and remained an avid Gopher football fan for the remainder of his life. One of the premier labor and employment lawyers in the region, Curt served as a partner at Dorsey & Whitney for nearly 40 years. In retirement, Curt and Joanie traveled the world, visiting every continent, and showered their family with love and affection. Curt was an active participant in many community organizations and had a deep passion for history, particularly the fur trade and the Civil War. A dedicated member of the Minnesota Historical Society, Curt served on the Executive Council for 25 years, including a term as president, and played an instrumental role in building the Minnesota History Center and establishing the Grand Portage National Monument. He also served on the University of Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors and Law Alumni Board of Directors. He found great comfort and joy in his Catholic faith, and was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the Friendship Village staff who cared for Curt and Joanie with great love and care. A memorial service will be held on February 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace (5071 Eden Ave, Edina) with a visitation at 10 a.m. Donations in Curt's honor may be sent to the Minnesota Historical Society (345 Kellogg Blvd, Saint Paul), Our Lady of Grace, or the Friendship Village Employee Appreciation Fund (8100 Highwood Dr, Bloomington).
