We are created in the image and likeness of God whether we are white, black, or brown and as such each of our lives is precious to our all loving God. Once again this week, my heart is breaking after hearing the news of shootings in Falcon Heights, Boca Raton, and Dallas. I can only imagine the shock and grief that the families are feeling now. I don’t pretend to know or understand why these incidents occurred, I only know that precious lives were lost, perhaps due to fear, perhaps due to anger, perhaps due to ignorance. As a society, we need to look for the causes and cures of senseless violence. As a faith community, we need to help bind the wounds caused by violence, to pray for the living and the dead, to seek God’s blessings and mercy on our world. We need to remember that all lives matter and that each death brings grief and mourning for the survivors. Please join me in praying for the victims of this week’s violence in our country, whether in the headlines or among the anonymous victims, may the living and the dead know the peace and consolation that comes from God. Something to think about.
