Something to Think About

I am saddened by the violence that dominates the news these days. I find it hard to believe that so many people are lost to senseless violence out of fear, misunderstanding or hatred.  I truly don’t understand what prompts a man or woman to believe it is justifiable to pick up a gun and take the life of another human being. It is especially upsetting when so many of these deaths seem to be in revenge for another act that the victim might not have been involved in. I wonder whether these murders are committed by people who profess faith in God, and if so, how do they rationalize their actions with the Commandments?  I worry that these murders demonstrate how little many people value human life either in this world or the world to come.  I truly believe that our national policies need to clearly show that we value all human life, the unborn, the poor, the disabled, the elderly, the aliens, those who might be different from us. I’m not certain what all these policies might look like, but I believe that we need to start soon.  Please join me in prayer for the victims, that those who see violence as a solution might find other answers, or for law makers at all levels that they might be guided by principles that see all human life as sacred.  Something to think about.        —Melissa Miller
