Confirmation Retreat: A Powerful Experience for Our Teens

Sr. Eileen Leon
Confirmation Coordinator & Middle School Youth Minister

Why a weekend Confirmation retreat? Because it is the best opportunity for our teens to let the Lord speak to their hearts, “I will bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her heart” Oseah 2:14. These are busy times for everyone, even for our teens. School, sports, friends, social events, mass media, etc. All the noise and hurries in our lives make it more difficult to listen to God and so to know who we are and what our purpose in life is.

A weekend retreat far from the stress, in silence, helps us to disconnect from our routine and enables us to encounter the Lord in a deeper way. Last weekend we had our Confirmation retreat. We took 68 Confirmandi, 19 peer ministers and 20 adults to Camp friendship in Annandale. It was an amazing weekend with the Lord. Through talks, prayer, daily Mass, praise and worship, reconciliation, small group discussions and games, the youth have the opportunity to know themselves and rediscover in God our loving and merciful Father who doesn’t take anything from us but gives us all, and wants to be part of our lives. Boys and girls, with the help of their Group-leaders, had the chance to reflect on many important topics and strengthen their relationship with Jesus.

I would encourage everyone to go through weekend retreat experience so they may “…taste and see that the Lord is good, how pleasant is the man who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8.
