Special thanks to the staff at Meridian Manor in Wayzata, and TowerLight in St. Louis Park, who provided loving care for Wally over the last several years during his struggle with dementia. Throughout his life, Wally was passionate about sports. He particularly loved & excelled at football & hockey, and was one of the top players of both varsity teams during his time at Mpls. North High School. After graduation in 1953, he spent 2 years serving in the US Army as a paratrooper. He then went on to St. Cloud State University from 1956-60, where he again was a dominant player & leader on both the hockey & football teams, and served as captain of both teams during his senior year. Wally forever remained a devoted fan & supporter of Husky athletics, and was named to the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. After college, he continued to share his passion by coaching & mentoring young athletes at the high school level (De La Salle and Benilde St. Margaret's), and later as a volunteer coach for countless different boys & girls youth teams in Edina, where he raised his family. He was responsible for flooding many a backyard rink for the local Edina hockey kids. Wally had a long and successful career as a residential home builder and became known over the years as one of the premier builders in the Edina community. His legacy lives on in the many beautiful homes still found throughout the city. He loved golf, a good bargain, ice cream sundaes, and feeding ducks at the lake with his grandkids. We will miss you Papa Wally! Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina, with visitation one hour prior.
