RCIA News

Easter Vigil 2019-730261_small.jpg

This ministry is so blessed to have the full support of the Catholic community here at Our Lady of Grace. So often those directed to RCIA here, are here because of you - whether it is by way of a friendly invitation proffered, by your fully engaged presence at weekly Mass, or by the joyful accolades about your faith that you share with others. These are all forms of discipleship, and are a big help in our mission of making Jesus Christ known and loved. Thank you!

We are excited to see the transformation of this year’s “RCIAers” as we share with them God’s love for them. Thank you in advance for your prayers and willingness to share Mass time with some of the requisite Rites and celebrations throughout this next year, as well as for your continued outreach while we integrate our latest group of neophytes into their Catholic faith. We will be jumping right into RCIA so these updates will be less frequent and, don’t worry, less lengthy. Please check back for future updates. Pax tecum.

RCIA Update August (Part 2) - What is RCIA?

Easter Vigil 2019-737638_1_small.jpg

Margaret Lively, RCIA Director

Well, simply stated, RCIA is the formal Rite and process consisting of instruction, reflection, prayer, formation and discernment by which adults choose for themselves to follow Jesus Christ by entering into full communion with the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

It is a Rite in the sense that it ultimately involves several religious Rites and Sacraments conventionally celebrated within our Catholic community: Baptism, Communion, Confession and Confirmation.

It is a process in which we follow a custom developed, approved curriculum that includes requisite topics for building one’s knowledge and love of the Catholic faith. Becoming Catholic typically takes 10 months or so, but nobody is ever rushed – real relationships take time to develop, right?

Through RCIA, a seriously seeking individual will not only discover and solidify a real relationship with Jesus Christ, they will also: learn the precepts of the Catholic Church; study the Word of God; understand the application of the Ten Commandments and the institution of the Seven Sacraments; learn the basic history of Christianity and the Church; attend Mass; take time for personal prayer and contemplation. Plus anything else we can squeeze in to help them in this momentous journey as they become fully equipped to continue their life-long relationship with Jesus and His Church.

RCIA Update August (Part 1)

Easter Vigil 2019-737638_1_small.jpg

Margaret Lively, RCIA Director

It has been a blessedly busy past year in our RCIA ministry here at Our Lady of Grace. We have welcomed 12 into the fullness of the Catholic faith, with more still on their journey, and we are looking forward to this coming year! Perhaps you have even forgotten what this somewhat clumsy acronym stands for - Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

As you all know through your years as faithful, practicing Catholics, we are all called to make Jesus Christ known and loved. We do this through living our lives in Christ and always seeing Christ in others; attending Mass regularly; connecting with Jesus in prayer daily, practicing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy; knowing, understanding and incorporating Jesus’ teachings into our everyday lives. Here is a huge opportunity for you to make a tremendous difference in someone’s life, just by reaching and inviting someone you know who might be seriously interested in experiencing what the Catholic faith offers through RCIA. As my dear Mom used to say, “Noodle on it awhile.” But really noodle on it in the next few weeks - RCIA starts Wednesday, September 11! We have an updated handout card in the Commons for you to give to your special inquirer - then, with a quick phone call from them, we’ll joyfully take it from there.
