Welcome to Blessed Buddies (Crochet Ministry)!
Every stitch in a Blessed Buddy is a prayer for a child at Children’s Hospital. These little crocheted animals are a tangible way to share Jesus’ love with kids who need it most. Once finished, our priests bless each buddy before they are sent off to their new homes.
Whether you are a pro or have never held a crochet hook, we would love for you to join us! You will find everything you need below to get started, including beginners tips, material guides and the simple safety standards we follow to keep our buddies safe and snuggly.
Join the Blessed Buddies Ministry by signing up here so we can share updates and important information.
Getting Started
Amigurumi (ah-muh-goo-ROO-mee) is the Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed toys, usually worked in the round and tightly stitched so they can be stuffed and hold their shape.
New to amigurumi crochet?
Start with a Woobles* beginner kit (about $30 and HIGHLY recommended). After completing your first project, future Blessed Buddies will only require yarn and fiberfill.
The step-by-step videos guide you clearly through each stage.
The kit includes the basic tools you need to begin.
Even experienced crocheters will find it helpful for learning the amigurumi style.
Already comfortable with amigurumi?
You may begin making Buddies right away!
All eyes must be embroidered. Safety eyes are not permitted, as they are not considered safe for children.
*Where to purchase Woobles Kits?
Target, Dick Blick Art Materials, Barnes and Noble, Walmart (Eden Prairie), REI (Bloomington) or online at Woobles.com or Amazon.com. NOTE: Lower cost options are difficult to follow and they don’t provide quality materials.
