Anne Kearney Peterson Quinn McDermott, a devoted mother, sister, spouse, grandmother, and compassionate nurse, passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 66. Anne was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 2, 1960, to Jerome (Jerry) and Margaret (Margi, née Schlader) Peterson. She grew up in the Twin Cities area, graduating from Edina High School before pursuing her Nursing degree from St. Catherine University, an achievement she was deeply proud of.
Throughout her career, Anne touched countless lives with her unique blend of fierce advocacy, strength, and deep empathy. Her professional highlights reflected her profound capacity for compassion, including providing care to infants and children in pediatric hospice, providing hospice care for her mother during the end of her life, and serving as a booking nurse at the Hennepin County Jail. Above all her professional accomplishments, Anne’s greatest joy was her family. She was a fiercely devoted mother to her children, wife to Jon, and a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren. Anne enjoyed her family, gardening, skiing, reading, fishing, and travel.
Known for her wicked sense of humor and an unmatched zest for life, Anne brought a spark, laughter, and wit to every room she entered. Her warmth, resilient spirit, courage, and unforgettable humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Anne is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jerry and Margi Peterson. She leaves behind a large, loving family who will carry her memory forever: her husband, Jon McDermott; her children, Kearney (Sally), Madeline (Josh), and Margaret; and her stepson, Thomas McDermott (Sheila), whom she loved as her fourth child. She is the adored grandmother of Mason, Claire, Phoebe, Reina, Aya, and June. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Peterson (Judy); and her four sisters, Amy Deckas (Chris), Mary Beth Goulett (Dale), Cindy Redmond (Tom), and Jane Kroot (Barry), alongside many nieces, nephews, extended family members, colleagues, and dear friends.
Visitation will be at 10 AM prior to the funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed in Anne's honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, a cause that reflects her lifelong dedication to caring for children.
