Jeffrey Patrick Sweetser, 71, of Shorewood, Minnesota, passed away peacefully from cancer in his home surrounded by family on August 8, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Amy Sweetser, and his brother, Paul Sweetser. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; his children, Kelly (Hersel), Heather (Abdullah), and Jeffrey (Carrie); his grandchildren, Saif, Siena, Zain, and Miles; his siblings, Ted (Jane), Amy (Jim, d.), Mary (Parker, d.), Phil (Mary Ellen), Christine (Steve), Sara (Ken), and Jennifer; and his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended family and the many friends whose lives he touched. His family thanks Dr. Blazar, the nursing staff, and the hospice team at Park Nicollet for their excellent care.
Jeff was born and raised in the Twin Cities. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas and used his love of details in his work as a CPA. He thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially Minnesota Gopher basketball and football, and was an enthusiastic coach for his son’s sports teams. Jeff lived to play golf, and when cancer finally prevented him from making a tee time, he died as quickly as humanly possible.
However, his greatest joy in life was his family and friends. He was happiest when enjoying a card or board game, a laugh, a story, or a grand meal while gathering around the table together. Jeff will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his enjoyment of books, his love of games, and the quiet way he made everyone around him feel important. His greatest legacy is the family, friendships, and memories he leaves behind.
He is deeply loved and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be at 10 AM and a celebration of Jeff’s life will follow at 12:30 PM at Oak Ridge Country Club, 700 Oak Ridge Road, Hopkins, Minnesota.
