October 2018 View this email in your browser Here at OLG our  High School Youth Ministry (anyone who has been confirmed in 8th-12th grade) is meant to engage young people where they are at in their journey to respond to the ultimate call of all of our lives: the call to be an intentional disciple of God.  In all of our ministires we bring the Gospel to young people by the art of living well - and it begins and ends with Christ. Have you ever played any ‘Minute to Win It Games,’ from the NBC game show? If not, you’re missing out on some ridiculous fun that you can play with your freinds! Join us for our very own Game Show night where contestants have ten challenges utilizing everyday household items like rulers, stuffed animals, candy, etc. Who Can be a Peer Minister? Any fully initiated Catholic high school students who wants to deepen his or her faith in the fellowship of other Catholic Teens What does it take to be a Peer Minister? UNLEASHED is a small group for all high school youth that is designed to help us all GROW as disciples and missionaries for Christ. Each series lasts a few weeks and will focus on a different topic in a unique way. Pilgrims are responsible for up to nine meals, mostly during the bus trip. Families of high school pilgrims are welcome to attend. Registration for groups will be taken on a first come-first served basis. Registration deadline is October 31 (unless it fills earlier). LifeNight Wrap-up! 9/26

Last night was our FIRST LifeNight of the year! It was great getting to meet everyone AND get some amazing cupcakes! For our first LifeNight we learned about who Pier Giorgio Frassati was- we watched a great video about getting to know him and then entered into some small group time where we went over these questions:

- If you had to describe what/who a Saint was... how would you?
- What Saint do you most identify with? Don't have one that you identify with? Why?
-Frassati often said that he wanted to "Live, not exsist." He wanted to live in a full way, because he knew that God made us to go to the top. What do you think about that?
- Frassati lived his life in surrender. Surrendering to his family. Surrendering to God.  What does it mean to you to surrender How do you surrender to God in your life?

LifeNight's are a mixture of faith and fun, and are open to everyone who is in high school! Each LifeNight has a fun game, a testimony or teaching about a different topic of our faith, discussion, and closing prayer.

At LifeNights you will be able to talk about a variety of issues and experiences with friends and young adult leaders so that together you can grow in faith and discover how a relationship with God will help you have the best life possible! This is an incredible time to connect with friends and God in the midst of our busy lives. See more.....

Leadership Training: Peer Ministers and Discipleship Leaders

Greetings in the Lord! We are so excited to be back and to have you all to serve together the kids We are sure the Lord will bless our programs and there will be much fruit. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR "YES". We wouldn't be able to do this without you.

We need to prepare ourselves for this year so we are having two main sessions before our two kick-off retreats.

Wednesday, September 5th (5:30pm in the Dining Room at OLG)

Annie Grandell will be giving a talk on how to lead a small group of youth. After the talk each group of catechists will meet with the staff-member in charge of their Faith Formation Program in order to go through the specifics of their own Program or level (elementary, middle school, school confirmation and high school youth ministry).

AND Saturday, September 15th. We will begin with Mass at OLG 8:30am- then head to the PES Sisters convent at 8650 Russell Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55431.

It will a very special time for preparing us spiritually for this year of ministry and go deeper in our mission as leaders! Thank you for your time, generosity and love to the Lord.

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH OPCY Reorganization Update   First, we thank all who helped spread the word about the changes underway in the Office for Protection of Children and Youth (OPCY) and the opportunities to join the OPCY team. Candidate applications for our new Safe Environment Coordinator positions are being reviewed now to determine which applicants will move on to the interview stage of the hiring process. We are aiming for an October start date.   Second, we wanted to let you know that Mary Kane will be leaving her position as Director of OPCY. She was offered, but declined to serve in one of the new Coordinator positions, but has generously agreed to stay on through the end of the calendar year to help with the reorganization of OPCY. Mary will also be assisting with both upcoming audits: the September external audit and the October USCCB audit. We are most grateful for her decades of service to our local Church and for her steadfast commitment to child protection.    Tim O’Malley, Director  Janell Rasmussen, Deputy Director Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment   PARISH AND CLERGY SERVICES Blue Mass for First Responders Saturday, September 29 5:15 p.m. Cathedral of Saint Paul, St. Paul Members of law enforcement and first responders – along with their families and the public – are invited to this special Blue Mass honoring their courageous service and asking for God's protection and blessings as we all work together to build up the common good. Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Hebda. September 29 is the Feast Day of Saint Michael the Archangel, patron saint of first responders. People of all faiths are welcome!
